DRD 2010 Diversity Workshop

May and June 2010 saw the rollout the DRD diversity workshop presented by EBDA.

The first session kicked off at the corporate offices and was opened by Mr. Niel Pretorius, who was the driving force behind the initiative. The sessions were then rolled out to all other business units with some of the sessions being opened by Mr. Charles Symons.

Part of the workshop included two guest speakers namely Ms. Mpumi Mathabela a gay, lesbian and transgender activist who shared the challenges of being "different" in today's society and place of work. Our second guest speaker was renowned former cricket great Mr. Victor Vermeulen who inspired and challenged with his story of transforming himself from a young quadriplegic with shattered dreams to an inspirational speaker and best selling author.

The workshops will be run through out the organisation in the coming months so as to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to challenge their perceptions of people and our environment.

  • 2EBDA achieves another milepost

    EBDA achieved another major milepost in the evolution of its business model when the first batch of engineering apprentices wrote their trade tests. Five learners wrote their trade tests in the electrical and fitting trades, all of whom were found competent in their first attempt at sitting their trade tests. EBDA is proud of the fact that although the numbers are still small we have achieved a 100% pass rate and we will do whatever it takes to maintain this level of excellence. A further 16 learners are expected to sit for their trade tests within the next six weeks.

  • 8First engineering aides graduate from EBDA

    On the 19th March 2010 EBDA achieved another significant milestone in its delivery of human resource development initiatives for its primary client, Ergo Mining Pty Ltd. Four engineering aides from the Ergo plant received their certificates of competence for the completion of the in-house Engineering Aides Certificate. This certificate forms part of the National Certificate in Engineering NQF level 2 qualification. The successful candidates are Steven Nkabende, Chris Matiso, and Jan Mogotlane

    After a successful scope extension audit carried out by the MQA on the 12th November, EBDA was awarded full accreditation by the Mining Qualifications Authority in all areas for which it applied for accreditation.

    A group of 11 employees from the Crown Gold Recoveries and Ergo operations were rewarded for their hard work on the Junior Leadership Programme (JLP) when they received their certificates and awards from Mr Niel Pretorius at a cocktail function held at the Crown Recreation club recently.

  • 12First batch of learners graduate from the ERPM re-skilling programme

    The first group of 50 former ERPM employees who attended a re-skilling programme in basic welding techniques completed their programme at the Ekurhuleni Businesss Development Academy on 20 July 2009. All learners were also trained in Basic Business Skills prior to their technical re-skilling.
